The power of the mind is a wondrous thing and it is well recognized that the subconscious mind controls our beliefs, behaviours and emotions.

Contrary to common belief the hypnotherapist does not have control of the clients mind.
 
In fact there is no point in utilizing hypnosis to change a habit or behaviour unless the client really does want to change as the hypnotherapist is unable to have the client do anything the client does not wish to do. The client has total control.
 
Another myth about hypnosis is that the client is asleep during hypnotherapy. Hypnosis is a process of concentration and relaxation. It is true some clients go into a deeper state of relaxation than others, however the client is not asleep and is aware of all that is said or done during the session but chooses to stay in that wonderfully relaxed state. knowing full well he or she can open their eyes when ever they want to.
 
The misunderstanding concerning being asleep arose unfortunately due the Greek meaning of the word hypnos, meaning sleep. The name was applied to the modality of hypnosis long before the process was fully understood.
